Our first choice is a long standing local company. Their detailed presentation came complete with copies of insurance, licenses, accolades, product samples and more. Whenever there was a question answers came back that made sense. The bottom line investment was reasonable with a required half down upon the beginning and half upon our satisfaction after completion. Both flexibility and a level of customization were possible while remaining budget friendly. Overall quality of products is surprising considering the final tally.
Metal shingle roofs are cheap, rugged, and long lasting. They vary from the low end of galvanized metal, like you would see on a barn, to high end copper. Metal roofing materials can be a great residential roofing option, as it is generally maintenance free and can protect from fire damage in high fire areas. Metal is another roofing material that requires proper installation as even small mistakes can cause leaks.
Some area local building codes require the installation of Drip Edge and Rake Edge and other building codes do not. Check with your local city building offices to find out. In Alberta for example the Building Code roofing contractors does not require the installation of Drip edge or Rake edge. Therefore many new homes and/or low budget roof systems do not have drip edge installed in order to allow for more affordable roof prices. We recommend however that Drip edge and Rake edge be installed on every Roof System, no exceptions.
Before getting estimates however you roofing companies should have your own work plan written down. Without this, you will be getting estimates on work you don’t need, understand, or want.
